Octavsion on the chopper!
Aerial shooting using the 8M pixel ultra high-definition digital motion picture camera
On December 21, 2005, Olympus took Octavision to the skies over Tokyo. Organized with the cooperation of mopitec Corporation, a leader in aerial photography, and McRAY Japan, Inc., a world-class digital image production laboratory, this was the world’s first aerial image shoot using an 8M pixel ultra high-definition digital motion picture camera. The camera crew took off in a helicopter from the Tokyo Heliport and spent about an hour in the air shooting scenes of the city below. Images from this shoot have included in a demonstration clip released in late January, 2006.

Exhibition at 18th JES Annual Meeting
Demonstrating ultra high-definition image of Octavision in the Olympus
booth
Octavision was demonstrated at the Olympus booth at the
18th Annual Meeting of JSES (Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery) held at Keio
Plaza Hotel, Tokyo, from December 7 to 9, 2005. The exhibits included the 8M pixel
motion picture camera and actual ultra high-definition images captured with the
camera. Visitors were impressed both by the stunning high quality of the images
as well by the technical expertise that went into developing the system.
Our goal is to bring the unprecedented image quality of Octavision’s
8M pixel technology to as many people as possible and to expand the world of Octavision
applications.

Olympus Octavision system rental service announced
At InterBee 2005 (International Broadcast Equipment Exhibition) held at Makuhari Messe on November 16 to 18, 2005, nac Image Technology., Inc. announced that it would start renting the Olympus Octavision 8M pixel high-definition motion picture camera/recorder system in December 2005. nac has been renting movie cameras for 30 years and is well established in the industry. Its decision to add the Olympus Octavision system to its rental lineup was based on Octavision’s ability to meet demands for advanced digital image production capability with ultra high-definition shooting and recording. The press announcement at the exhibition attracted a big crowd, attesting to the growing interest in equipment that is dramatically expanding the potential of image production.

Live transmission at iGrid2005
Octavision cameras used as relay cameras for real-time trans-Pacific distribution
of 8M pixel ultra high-definition images
On September 27, 2005, our 8M pixel digital motion picture cameras served as relay cameras for the world’s first successful real-time trans-Pacific transmission of 8M pixel ultra high-definition images. This unprecedented event took place iGrid2005, an international conference held jointly by Keio University, NTT Corporation, University of California at San Diego, University of Illinois at Chicago and Pacific Interface. This experiment was intended to demonstrate the future potential of utilizing ultra high-definition images in academic, educational, medical and cultural applications by distributing them live at the global scale. The opening ceremony was transmitted live and included a comment from President Kikukawa. Olympus is planning to participate actively in this kind of advanced technical study and to continue development of advanced digital image technologies.
